Passenger Info
We’re excited to welcome you for an unforgettable sidecar tour of Sydney.
Here are a few things you need to know before we hit the road.
Who can ride
We want to share the joy of sidecars with as many people as possible, but there are some limitations on who can enjoy our tours safely.
Our tours take two passengers, max: one in the sidecar and one on the back of the bike.
To ride with us you must:
be at least 8 years old
be accompanied by an adult if you are aged between 8 and 17
weigh no more than 100kg/220lb (per passenger)
wear a motorcycle helmet that meets and displays the safety standard for NSW roads (we provide helmets in a range of sizes for our passengers)
wear long pants and sturdy, enclosed footwear if you will be riding on the back of the motorcycle
reach the footpegs with your feet if you will be riding on the back of the motorcycle
fit comfortably in the seat (45cm/~18in wide) if you will be riding in the sidecar.
We welcome passengers with disability. Please let us know when booking if you need any specific adjustments to help you enjoy the ride. For safety reasons, our rides are not suitable for people who cannot:
understand and follow simple verbal instructions for your safety
understand and respond appropriately to situational changes
control behaviours that could harm our guide or limit their ability to operate the vehicle safely
sit up unaided
wear an approved motorcycle helmet, with sufficient neck strength to support its weight during braking and cornering
be supported to meet the requirements above by a person who accompanies them on the tour.
For your safety, and ours, we will not accept any passenger who:
is visibly intoxicated by drugs or alcohol
behaves in a way that is rude or abusive.
If at any time your guide decides it is not safe for a passenger to ride with us, the ride will not proceed. Our cancellation policy describes when a passenger will, or will not, be eligible for a refund.
What we provide
We will supply:
a friendly, knowledgeable guide
a helmet that complies with the standard required by the NSW Government (we have a range of sizes, which is why we ask for approximate head measurements with your booking)
an integrated audio system so you can hear and talk to your guide
safety gear, including motorcycle gloves and jackets (strongly recommended for pillion passengers)
clean liners to wear underneath our helmets and gloves.
We keep all equipment clean and in good repair. We clean and sanitise helmet straps and visors immediately after every use, and provide freshly laundered helmet and glove liners for every passenger.
What you should bring
You should bring:
comfortable clothing that is appropriate for the weather conditions – we recommend layers on cooler days
long pants and sturdy shoes with closed toes if you will be riding on the back of the motorcycle
sunglasses to wear at stops on the tour – there is also a sun visor built into our helmets
your phone and/or camera – trust us, you’ll want pics
sunscreen – we’ll be outside, and the Australian sun is unforgiving
a sense of adventure.
You should not bring much else. You can easily fit a bag or small backpack in the footwell, but there’s not a lot of storage space in the sidecar.
Before we depart
Your tour will start and end at an agreed meeting point. Most of our tours start or end at one of three locations:
Chalmers St near the Light Rail stop and Central Station
https://maps.app.goo.gl/fTHWmgCWkvRuKJd47Pieno café and restaurant in Surry Hills
https://maps.app.goo.gl/VK2xWMq9X5LLZ6396Conservatorium Rd in the northern part of the city centre https://maps.app.goo.gl/Wh9dKbMPCneAyBdQ6
We can also arrange to pick you up or drop you off from your hotel, or another place in the Sydney central business district where it is safe for us to park the sidecar.
In the first 5-10mins, we will set you up with a helmet and gloves and make sure you’re not wearing or carrying anything unsafe, like a long scarf that could come loose or get caught in a wheel. We’ll also take you through a quick safety briefing, confirm the route, and identify anything you’re particularly keen to explore.
Tips to enjoy the ride
Getting in and out of the sidecar
Your guide will explain how to get in and out of the sidecar safely, and can help if you need assistance. Always follow the guide’s directions, and don’t get in or out unless the guide says it is safe to do so.
Face the back of the sidecar as you step in—do not grab the windscreen for support. Stand on the seat and turn around so you’re facing the front of the sidecar and shuffle your feet forward into the footwell. You can grab the side rails of the sidecar for support as you sit down.
If you’re wearing shoes that might damage the seat of the sidecar, like high heels or football boots, we might ask you to take them off, just while you’re getting in and out.
Getting on and off the pillion seat (the back of the motorcycle)
Your guide will explain how to get on and off the motorcycle safely, and can help if you need assistance. Always follow the guide’s directions, and don’t get on or off unless the guide says it is safe to do so.
If you’re sitting on the back of the motorcycle, you will be the last to get on. Once the guide is seated on the bike, step up onto the footpeg and swing your other leg over the seat. You can lean on the guide’s shoulders if necessary.
While we’re on the road
You must stay seated while we are on the road. Smoking and vaping are not permitted in the sidecar or on the back of the motorcycle. If you’re in the sidecar, do not touch any part of the motorcycle.
Your guide may suggest that you lower the visor of your helmet when moving at speed or in some areas. They’re trying to minimise bugs and debris getting into your mouth and eyes—you should probably take their advice. Your helmet also has a built-in sunshade that you can raise or lower to make your ride more comfortable.
Pillion passengers may hold onto the guide’s waist, or the handles attached to the guide’s belt. Do not grab your guide’s arms or shoulders.
Passengers are welcome to take photos of the scenery during the ride, but please be careful—any damage if you drop your very expensive phone or camera is at your own risk. Limit any movement to twisting from the waist up, and feel free to ask the guide to stop if you want a photo and don’t want to risk losing your phone or camera.
What about the weather
We ride in most weather—but not all weather. If the weather conditions are unsafe (high winds, lightning, heavy rain, or hail), we’ll get in touch to reschedule your tour or give you a full refund. A bit cold? Light rain? No worries! We’ll supply rain gear and make it an adventure.
